Lord’s Supper

A Mother’s View
of the Lord’s Supper

Matthew 26 • Acts 2 • Acts 20 • 1 Corinthians 11

Luke 2:34–35
02

“A sword will pierce
even your own soul”

Luke 2:34–35
The warning came before the cross
03

Before Mary stood
near the cross

God told her a sword was coming.

Not in her hand. In her soul.
04

The Son she carried
carried the sin
of the world

Body Blood Death
Mary saw what mothers should never see
05

Do we remember
near the cross?

Or do we handle the Supper like something common?

The question is not small
06

The Lord’s Supper
is Christ’s appointed memorial

His body. His blood. His suffering. His death. His love. His return.

This is not casual religion
07

It belongs
to Christ

Not invented by men. Not added later.

Matthew 26:26–30
08

He took the bread.
He took the cup.
He gave the meaning.

Matthew 26:26–30
The Lord gave the memorial Himself
09

The bread points
to His body

The cup points to His blood of the covenant, poured out for forgiveness.

Matthew 26:26–28
10

Christ died

His body was given
His blood was shed
Sin was serious
1 Corinthians 11:26
11

Examine yourself

Not sinless perfection. Reverence. Repentance. Discernment. A mind fixed on the Lord.

1 Corinthians 11:27–29
12

Calvary behind us
Christ before us

We proclaim the Lord’s death until He comes.

1 Corinthians 11:26
13

They continued
steadfastly

The saved devoted themselves to teaching, fellowship, breaking of bread, and prayers.

Acts 2:41–42
14

The disciples came together
to break bread

Acts 20:7
The first day of the week
15

The Supper belongs
to the whole age
of the church

1 Corinthians 11:26
Until He comes
16

Mary did not remember
a stranger

She remembered her Son.

Acts 1:14 • Acts 2:42
17

The body
was real

Born. Held. Nursed.
Tired. Hurt. Pierced.
Dead.
Luke 2:34–35
18

Not merely
Mary’s son

The Son of God came to do the Father’s will.

Luke 2:40–52
19

Family ties did not
outrank obedience

The true family of Christ does the will of the Father.

Matthew 12:46–50
20

“Woman, behold,
your son!”

In agony, He did not forget righteous responsibility.

John 19:25–30
21

She saw
the cost

Scourged body
Thorns. Cross. Nails.
Blood. Agony. Death.
At the cross
22

Not animal blood.
Not symbolic blood.
His blood.

The blood of the covenant poured out for forgiveness.

Matthew 26:28 • Hebrews 9:22
23

“It is finished”

The Lamb had been offered. The Son obeyed the Father all the way to death.

John 19:30
24

Do not drift

Remember the body
Remember the blood
Examine yourself
1 Corinthians 11:26–29
25

Obey Christ

Believe in Christ
Repent of your sins
Confess His name
Be baptized into Christ for forgiveness
Mark 16:15–16 • Acts 2:38
