Two wisdoms. Two origins.
Both visible in how we live.
"Who among you is wise and understanding? Let him show by his good behavior his deeds in the gentleness of wisdom."
"But if you have bitter jealousy and selfish ambition in your heart, do not be arrogant and so lie against the truth."
"This wisdom is not that which comes down from above, but is earthly, natural, demonic."
"For where jealousy and selfish ambition exist, there is disorder and every evil thing."
"But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, reasonable,"
"full of mercy and good fruits, unwavering, without hypocrisy."
"And the seed whose fruit is righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace."
What kind of wisdom
was growing in the dark?
Wisdom is not proved by words.
It is proved by a life.
More than intellectual knowledge — the skill of living well.
In James: wisdom that is proved by conduct, not claimed by words.
"But if you have bitter jealousy and selfish ambition in your heart, do not be arrogant and so lie against the truth."
It begins in the heart,
not in the mind.
Earthly wisdom puts self
at the center of everything.
When we claim wisdom we do not have,
we lie against truth itself.
"This wisdom is not that which comes down from above, but is earthly, natural, demonic."
"For where jealousy and selfish ambition exist, there is disorder and every evil thing."
This is what earthly wisdom
ultimately produces.
"But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, reasonable, full of mercy and good fruits, unwavering, without hypocrisy."
Purity is not a virtue among virtues.
It is the foundation of all the rest.
Not peace at any cost—
but peace rightly ordered.
Open to correction. Soft in hand.
Willing to yield when truth requires it.
Wisdom is not analysis — it is action.
It shows up in how you treat people.
Consistent. Transparent. Real.
The same in public and in private.
"But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all generously and without reproach, and it will be given to him."
Wisdom has a fruit.
Peace has a harvest.
"And the seed whose fruit is righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace."
"Peacemakers who sow in peace…"
"…raise a harvest of righteousness."
Righteousness is grown, not grabbed.
It requires sowing. It requires peace.
"Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God."
"Her ways are pleasant ways and all her paths are peace."
| Wisdom from Below | Wisdom from Above | |
|---|---|---|
| Origin | Earthly, natural, demonic | Comes down from above |
| Root | Bitter jealousy | First pure |
| Motive | Selfish ambition | Full of mercy and good fruits |
| Manner | Arrogant — lies against truth | Gentle, reasonable |
| Toward others | Disorder | Peaceable |
| Integrity | Hypocrisy | Unwavering, without hypocrisy |
| Fruit | Every evil thing | A harvest of righteousness |
The tongue is a window into the heart.
What kind of wisdom is steering yours?
Selfish ambition is not just bad strategy.
James says it is demonic at its root.
Disorder in relationships is not accidental.
It reveals the wisdom beneath the surface.
Not in effort. Not in experience.
In asking the One who gives generously.
Christ Jesus became to us wisdom from God.
He is not far. He gives generously.
"…Christ Jesus, who became to us wisdom from God, and righteousness and sanctification, and redemption."
"Let the word of Christ richly dwell within you, with all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another…"
Pure. Peaceable. Gentle. Reasonable.
Full of mercy. Unwavering. Real.
