Via Maris Software

Via Maris is the map software EVVFaith uses to make the Bible maps and related visuals in Ed Rangel’s books and Bible study materials. The name comes from the ancient road along the Mediterranean coast that carried travelers between Egypt, Israel, and the northern empires, and it fits a tool built to follow the routes of Scripture.

How the maps are made

Every place and route on a Via Maris map comes from a recorded coordinate, not from a hand drawing or an AI-generated picture. Place locations come from the Pleiades gazetteer, and where Pleiades has no record the identification is taken from OpenBible.info and marked as such. Coastlines and relief come from Natural Earth. Roman roads and the shaded territories of kingdoms and empires come from the Ancient World Mapping Center. Sea routes are drawn as schematic paths, and the maps say so.

Where the Bible does not state a route, the map says that too. A solid line is a route by land, a dashed line is a route by sea, and a dotted line marks a route the text does not give or an endpoint that is disputed. A solid ring marks a site that is securely identified, and a dotted ring marks one that is less certain. The maps show what the evidence supports and no more.

What it produces

Each map is built in the sizes a teacher needs: a print version, a slide version, and a handout, in color and in black and white. The sets cover Genesis through Revelation, from Abram’s journey out of Ur to Paul’s voyage to Rome, and include the Persian Empire and the province of Judah for the study of Ezra, Nehemiah, and Esther.

Where you will see it

Via Maris maps appear in EVVFaith Bible study books and handouts. Each carries the credit line “© EVVFaith.com 2026 · Via Maris Software,” with the sources for that map listed beside it.
