Revelation 18 is a funeral dirge over a doomed world order. The chapter does not mourn Babylon because heaven loves her. It records the lament of those who profited from her. Kings, merchants, and sailors weep, not because righteousness has fallen, but because their source of wealth and luxury has collapsed.

The Collapse of a Corrupt System

Babylon is pictured as powerful, wealthy, admired, and secure. Yet in one hour her judgment comes. Her downfall is sudden, final, and public. What men build against God may stand for a season, but it never stands forever.

What Babylon Represents

Babylon represents organized rebellion against God clothed in wealth, culture, influence, and seduction. She offers luxury without holiness, success without truth, and pleasure without repentance. That is why her fall is not merely political. It is moral.

Come Out of Her

The call of the chapter is plain: “Come out of her, my people.” God does not call His people to admire the world’s corruption from a safe distance. He calls them to separate from it. The church cannot drink from Babylon’s cup and remain pure.

Why This Still Matters

Every age has its Babylon. Every generation faces the temptation to join what God has already condemned. Revelation 18 calls believers to see through the glamour and remember the end. The city of man falls. The kingdom of God remains.
