Good Is Not the Finish Line

Edward Rangel · October 7, 2026
1
A faithful church does not live on yesterday’s obedience.
It receives the word, stands firm, strengthens the brethren, and keeps growing in what pleases God.
2
The most dangerous word a faithful church can say is “enough.”
3
Thessalonica began in conflict.
Some received the gospel. Jealous opponents stirred the city against Paul and Silas.
4
Paul praised their faith, love, endurance, and example.

They did not receive the gospel because it made life easier.
They received it while opposition made obedience costly.

So that you became an example to all the believers in Macedonia and in Achaia. · NASB
9
1 Thessalonians 1:8 · NASB 1995

A strong beginning does not guarantee a faithful finish.
Satan waits for excitement to fade and pressure to grow.

Timothy has come to us from you, and has brought us good news of your faith and love. · NASB
14
1 Thessalonians 3:8 · NASB 1995

15
III

Appreciate those who diligently labor among you, and have charge over you in the Lord and give you instruction. · NASB
19
1 Thessalonians 5:14 · NASB 1995
Admonish the unruly, encourage the fainthearted, help the weak, be patient with everyone. · NASB

IV
They Were Commanded to Excel Still More
1 Thessalonians 4:1–12
21
1 Thessalonians 4:1 · NASB 1995
As you received from us instruction as to how you ought to walk and please God, just as you actually do walk, that you excel still more. · NASB
22
1 Thessalonians 4:9 · NASB 1995
You yourselves are taught by God to love one another. · NASB
23
1 Thessalonians 4:10 · NASB 1995
But we urge you, brethren, to excel still more. · NASB
24
Faithfulness is not a chair in which we rest.
25
Where have we begun to say “enough”?
Past obedience cannot perform today’s duty.
26
Receive the word and obey Christ.
Believe, repent, confess His name, and be baptized for the forgiveness of your sins. Then rise to walk with Him and keep growing in faithfulness.
27
Good is not the finish line.
