Memorial Day remembers sacrifice. John 15 shows us the greatest sacrifice and the loyalty it deserves.

The cross is not only to be honored. It is to be answered with obedience.
We live under the shadow of real sacrifice.
In national life and in the gospel, we stand where others have given their lives. That should never feel casual.
“This is My commandment, that you love one another, just as I have loved you.”
“Greater love has no one than this, that one lay down his life for his friends.”
“You are My friends if you do what I command you.”
Christ’s greater love calls for greater loyalty.
We do not honor His sacrifice by admiration alone. We honor Him by obedient friendship that takes His commands seriously.
- Love is commanded, not suggested.
- Love is measured by sacrifice.
- Friendship with Christ is tied to obedience.
Jesus commands His people to love as He has loved them.
- Love is not self-defined.
- Love takes its shape from Christ.
- Love shows up in action, not only in feeling.
Love reaches its highest point in willing sacrifice.
Love does not hold its life back when obedience calls for costly faithfulness.
It is dangerous to enjoy the benefits of sacrifice while ignoring its claims.
A nation can do that with the lives of its soldiers. A disciple can do that with the blood of Christ.
We can praise the cross and still resist the Lord of the cross.
We can enjoy gospel blessings while keeping our own terms.
Friendship with Christ is real, but it is not casual.
- Friendship with Christ listens to His word.
- Friendship with Christ yields when He commands.
- Friendship with Christ endures when it costs.
Command
Jesus tells His disciples to love one another.
Example
He points to the way He has loved them.
Sacrifice
He shows love at its highest in a life laid down.
Friendship
He calls obedient disciples His friends.
Speech
Do my words about Christ match the way I obey Him?
Worship
Do I gather to honor Him while keeping disobedience in place?
Service
Do I love brethren when it is costly, or only when it is easy?
Heart
Do I cherish the benefits of the cross more than the Lord who died for me?
Love one another as Christ has loved you.
- Bear burdens instead of holding grudges.
- Guard unity with truth and patience.
- Serve when the cost is real.
Do not stand at a distance from the love of Christ.
- Hear the word of Christ.
- Believe Jesus is the Son of God.
- Repent, confess Him, and be baptized for the forgiveness of sins.
Greater love deserves greater loyalty.
Remember sacrifice. Honor Christ. Love one another. Obey the Lord who laid down His life for His friends.
