Jesus prepares troubled disciples to live faithfully without His physical presence.
A branch does not survive by admiring the vine from a distance. A branch lives because it remains connected.
“I am the true vine, and My Father is the vinedresser.”
Fruitlessness is not ignored simply because connection is claimed.
Correction and discipline are not abandonment but active care.
“You are already clean because of the word which I have spoken to you.”
Not occasional religious interest, but continuing life under Christ and His word.
“As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself unless it abides in the vine…”
“Apart from Me you can do nothing.”
“If anyone does not abide in Me, he is thrown away as a branch and dries up…”
“…and they gather them, and cast them into the fire and they are burned.”
Assurance belongs to the one who abides.
“If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, ask whatever you wish…”
“Just as the Father has loved Me, I have also loved you; abide in My love… If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love.”
“This is My commandment, that you love one another, just as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this, that one lay down his life for his friends.”
Friendship with Jesus is not claimed on our terms. It is proven by obedience.
He made the Father’s will known to His disciples.
He chose them to go, bear fruit, and bear fruit that remains.
“If the world hates you, you know that it has hated Me before it hated you… because you are not of the world…”
“When the Helper comes… He will testify about Me, and you will testify also, because you have been with Me from the beginning.”
Not on borrowed faith, family religion, public reputation, or yesterday’s connection.
Obey Him, bear fruit, love His people, pray by His word, and stand when the world presses.
Activity without Christ is not fruit. The next generation must be taught to abide.
