I. The Lord’s Coming Will Be Sudden, So Do Not Live Asleep

Exegetical Note: Jesus shifts from the visible signs of Jerusalem's fall to the unknown timing of the final judgment, comparing it to the days of Noah. Gem: A man who postpones repentance is betting against the return of Christ.

1. How does the comparison to the "days of Noah" destroy the false comfort of a future warning period?

2. In what specific ways do you "schedule your obedience" or gamble on having tomorrow?

II. The Lord Expects Faithful Service, So Do Not Delay Obedience

Exegetical Note: The faithful servant is rewarded for doing the assigned work, while the wicked servant rots from the inside out because he believes the master is delayed. Gem: The servant who is ready is the servant found faithful.

3. Why does a false view of the Master's delay breed spiritual corruption and laziness?

III. The Lord Requires Personal Readiness, So Do Not Depend on Borrowed Religion

Exegetical Note: Ten virgins had lamps and nearness to the bridegroom, but only five had their own oil; nearness is not preparedness. Gem: Borrowed religion will fail when the door shuts.

IV. The Lord Will Expose Everything, So Pursue Holiness Now

Exegetical Note: The physical universe will be destroyed with intense heat, stripping away all earthly pretense before the judgment seat. Gem: The doctrine of the end is not meant to make us clever, but clean.
